    The Suzani Tradition

Suzani refers to a tradition of decorative embroidery — typically worked on cloth in silk or cotton thread — that developed across Central Asia. The name comes from the Persian word for needle. Suzani embroidery is characterised by bold floral and geometric motifs worked in dense, layered stitches. Our Suzani pieces are produced in Türkiye by experienced makers. To learn more about the materials and people behind our collections, see Our Craft.

    VISITOR QUESTIONS

    Frequently Asked Questions

How should I care for a Suzani piece?

We recommend dry-cleaning for embroidered Suzani pieces to preserve the stitch work and thread colour. Avoid wringing, tumble-drying, or prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and store flat or gently rolled rather than tightly folded across the embroidery.

Where are your Suzani pieces made?

All of our Suzani pieces are produced in Türkiye by makers working in long-established regional traditions. The embroidery tradition developed across Central Asia and Anatolia over many centuries. Women play a central role throughout the production process.

What range of Suzani pieces do you carry?

Our Suzani selection includes embroidered scarves, cushion covers and decorative textiles. The selection varies by season and availability. If you are looking for a particular type of piece or colourway, please contact us before your visit and we will let you know what is currently in stock.
