Ikat and Suzani Textiles Made in Türkiye

Gülipek Hamit Fırat — Grand Bazaar, Istanbul — Est. 1968

Our Ikat and Suzani pieces draw on techniques shaped across Central Asia and Anatolia. Produced in Türkiye, they carry long-practised approaches to pattern, colour, embroidery and textile construction into contemporary scarves, jackets, cushions and decorative pieces.

    Ikat

Ikat is a patterning method in which yarn is resist-dyed before weaving. The process creates the characteristic soft-edged, blurred patterns that distinguish Ikat from other woven fabrics. The technique has been practised across Central Asia, the Caucasus and Anatolia over many centuries, and continues in use today. Our Ikat pieces include scarves, shawls, jackets and home textiles.

    Suzani

Suzani refers to a tradition of decorative embroidery — typically worked on cloth in silk or cotton thread — that developed across Central Asia. The name comes from the Persian word for needle. Suzani embroidery is characterised by bold floral and geometric motifs worked in dense, layered stitches. Our Suzani pieces include scarves, cushions and decorative textiles.

    Craft Rooted in Place

Experienced makers bring these long-practised techniques to the pieces in our collection. Women play an active role throughout the production process — their skill and sustained contribution is central to the work.
