The Ikat Technique
Ikat is a patterning method in which yarn is resist-dyed before weaving. The process creates the characteristic soft-edged, blurred patterns that distinguish Ikat from other woven fabrics. The technique has been practised across Central Asia, the Caucasus and Anatolia over many centuries, and continues in use today. Frequently Asked Questions
How should I care for an Ikat scarf or jacket?
We recommend dry-cleaning for Ikat jackets to preserve the dye work. Lighter Ikat scarves can often be hand-washed in cool water with a mild detergent and laid flat to dry. If in doubt, dry-cleaning is the safe choice. Avoid wringing, tumble-drying, or prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Where are your Ikat pieces made?
All of our Ikat pieces are produced in Türkiye by makers working in long-established regional traditions. The resist-dyeing technique draws on practices developed across Central Asia, the Caucasus and Anatolia over many centuries. Women play a central role throughout the production process.
Do you offer international shipping?
